About 2019

The conditions of entry to the Salon are published on this website.   You will be asked to formally agree to the conditions upon entry.

The 2019 North Shore National Salon of Photography has eight categories:

Prints
1.Open Colour:Any subject or style of print - in colour but not monochrome.
2.Open Monochrome:Any subject or style of print - in monochrome (i.e. shades of any single colour) but not full colour.
3.'Scapes:Any of the 'scapes - landscape, seascape, cityscape etc. You may emphasise some aspect of your 'scape, but it is important that the 'scape does not become just a background.
4.People:Your main subject should be a person or group of people - not necessarily a portrait, but one or more human beings should be the focus of your picture.
Digital
5.Open:Any subject or style of image - in colour or monochrome.
6.Abstract:Abstract photography explores the elements of design such as line, shape, colour, pattern, texture, and form as subjects in their own right. It does not matter if you can tell what the "unabstracted" object is. In some abstract pictures you might see a figure, a place, or an object that has been abstracted by simplifying or exaggerating its form although the image doesn’t actually have to make reference to anything outside itself. The aim of abstract work is to make the viewer respond to the image’s colours, shapes, lines and feel the mood, of the image. Abstract photography is free form and fluid and can be made of just about anything. The only limit is your imagination.
7.Fantasy:The fantasy genre could be described as something that contains elements that are not realistic, such as magical powers, and is characterized by a departure from the accepted rules as perceived in the world around us. It represents what is impossible or unexplained and is outside the parameters of our known reality. Often set in a medieval universe or involve mythical beings or supernatural forms, fantasy is all about make believe, creating a magical journey for the viewer. Images must be created from one or more photographs originated by the author and can be developed using any software.
8.Street:This is essentially a photo-journalism subject. The sky's the limit - just so long as whatever you photograph is happening out of doors and in or on a public thoroughfare, or at a public gathering.
The following awards are awarded in each category: Gold Silver and Bronze medals, Honours, Highly Commended and Acceptance.
In addtion, The Salon Trophy is awarded to the best overall image chosen from the Gold awards.
